CRPF inspector killed in terrorist attack

New Delhi: Three days after Jammu and Kashmir assembly election was announced, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) inspector was killed in a clash with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday.

A PTI report, quoting officials, said that terrorists attacked a joint party of CRPF and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu & Kashmir Police. The milita

nts opened fire on them at around 3.30 pm in the remote Dudu area of Basantgarh.

Kuldeep Singh, an inspector of CRPF’s 187th battalion, was hit by a bullet. While he was being shifted to a hospital, Kuldeep succumbed to his injuries.

As the joint patrolling party retaliated forcefully, the terrorists fled the scene.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the spot and a search operation launched to track down and neutralise the terrorists, PTI added.

Jammu and Kashmir will have its first assembly election as Union territory over three phases — September 18, 25 and October 1.

After delimitation, there are a total of 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu & Kashmir, of which are for general categories, 9 reserved for scheduled tribes and 7 reserved for scheduled castes.
