Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, three members of a family including a minor boy died due to asphyxiation in a brick kiln in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
As per reports, the incident took place at Kamalanga village under Kantabania police limits in the district. The family members, who died in the kiln, were identified as Meghanath Bhoi (50), his wife Neera Bhoi (45), and their 7-year-old son Jitu Bhoi.
According to Hindol SDPO Dipak Jena, the family was found unconscious inside the brick kiln by another labourer. They were rescued in critical condition and rushed to Talcher Sub-Divisional Hospital where doctors declared three of them dead.
A case of unnatural death has been registered in Kantabania police station and the bodies sent for postmortem.
The family was reportedly employed by one Binoy Sahoo of Chhattisgarh who owns the brick kiln. Another son of the couple is admitted to Talcher Thermal Hospital and is in a critical state, sources said.
From preliminary investigation, police suspected that the family members might have set fire to the brick kiln at night and slept atop the structure. The smoke from the brick kiln could have led to suffocation and death.
