Cuttack: A girl student was allegedly found hanging inside the room of a private hostel at Adaspur under Olatpur police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Diwali night.
The deceased has been identified as Rashmi Rekha Khila (20), a resident of Bedarmati village under Kuakhia police limits in Jajpur. She was a Plus III (science) final-year student at Udaynath (UN) Autonomous College.
According to sources, she was residing at a local private hostel, Devaki Hostel. Her inmates, who were celebrating Diwali on the terrace, found Rashmi locked inside her room on Monday night.
They tried to look through her window and found her hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta.
On being informed, local police arrived at the spot and recovered the body, which was then sent for post-mortem.
While hostel authorities suspect it to be a case of suicide, her family members alleged that she was murdered. A police complaint has also been filed against the hostel owner, his wife and their acquaintances, the sources added.
