Malkangiri: Three persons were arrested near Chitrakonda Chhak in Odisha’s Malkangiri district while allegedly attempting to smuggle around 38 kg ganja packed tightly and wrapped around their bodies.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Fiazan (25) and Yashmin Nagar from Ulistan Nagar village, and Sheik Sharik (45) from Yashmin Nagar village, both in Maharashtra’s Amaravati district.
According to sources, a team of Orkel police led by sub-inspector Ajit Singh Bariha intercepted the trio, carrying two white plastic handbags each, during patrolling on Monday. They attempted to flee, raising suspicion, and were apprehended after a chase.
During search, 38.2 kg ganja was found wrapped and affixed to their bodies. Two mobile phones and Rs 2,100 were also seized from them.
Police identified Sunadhar Khilla from Chitrakonda as the supplier of the ganja.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered and further investigation is underway.
