Sundargarh: Three persons were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years by a court in Odisha’s Sundargarh on Thursday for raping a widow in a moving car around eight years ago.
The Court of Sundargharh District and Sessions Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each while awarding the jail term for the convicts, Sonu Soi, Indru Kerketa, and Pravin Barla.
In case of non-payment of the fine amount, the convicts will have to undergo additional imprisonment of two months.
As per prosecution, the woman was returning home from her relative’s house on November 29, 2015 in Rajgangpur area when the three, who reportedly stayed near her house, offered her a lift in their car.
After the woman got into the car, the three gang-raped her inside the moving vehicle. Later, they dropped her near her house.
The court pronounced the verdict after examining the statements of 21 witnesses and other evidence during trial.
