Jajpur: Three persons were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years by a court in Odisha’s Jajpur district for the abduction and rape of a minor girl around four years ago.
The court of the additional district and sessions Judge, Jajpur awarded 20-year jail term for main accused Bhagaban Maharana of Keonjhar and two others – Punam Agarwal and Nirakar Panigrahi.
The court also imposed Rs 3000 fine on each convict and in case of failure to pay the penalty they will have to undergo additional jail term for six months.
The court further directed the district legal services authority to pay a compensation of Rs seven lakh to the rape survivor.
As per the case record, the three were arrested for abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl in Sukinda area of Jajpur district in 2020. The court pronounced the verdict on the basis of statements of 20 witnesses and other evidence.
