Nayagarh: At least three girl students were killed and 11 others critically injured when the bus carrying picnickers collided head-on with a truck in Daspalla area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
According to preliminary information, the accident took place near Buguda on Shalabhanga forest road under the jurisdiction of Daspalla police station late on Friday night.
More than 50 students from a Daspalla-based coaching centre were proceeding to Harishankar and Nrusinghanath in Balangir district for a picnic when the bus collided with a truck, leaving three students dead and several others injured.
The injured were immediately admitted to hospitals nearby for treatment. While four of them were sent to Daspalla hospital, seven have been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Nayagarh for treatment.
Daspalla MLA Ramesh Chandra Behera reportedly visited the hospital to meet the injured.
On being informed, a police team rushed to the site for rescue operation. Nayagarh SP Rahul Jain also visited the hospital to see the injured.
