Lucknow: Three terrorists accused of lobbing a grenade at a police post in Punjab’s Gurdaspur were killed in an encounter with police in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit, reports citing sources claimed. They were gunned down by a joint team of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab police last night. According to reports, when the cops tried to arrest them, the criminals opened fire. The injured criminals have been identified as Gurwinder Singh, Virendra Singh and Jasanpreet Singh. Two rifles of the AK series and several Glock pistols were recovered from them, reported NDTV.
Cops have claimed that these criminals are part of a Pakistan-sponsored module of Khalistan Zindabad Force. “This terror module is involved in grenade attacks at police establishments in border areas of Punjab. The encounter has taken place in the jurisdiction of PS Puranpur, Pilibhit, between the joint police teams of Pilibhit & Punjab and the three module members are involved in the grenade attack on a police post in Gurdaspur,” Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav wrote in a post on X. The cop also added that investigations were underway.
Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar dubbed the encounter as a ‘daredevil’ job in an interview to NDTV. Earlier, three police stations in Punjab were targeted within a week. Security agencies suspect Khalistani terrorists are behind the attack. The Bangar police post in Gurdaspur was targeted on Friday. A blast occurred at Islamabad police station in Amritsar on Tuesday. Another explosion had occurred outside Bakshiwal police post. No one was injured in these blasts.
A purported post circulating on social media claimed terror outfit Khalistan Zindabad Force had claimed responsibility for the explosions. OdishaBytes couldn’t independently verify the authenticity of such posts.
