Cuttack: At least three persons were killed and over 40 others injured, some of them critically, in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Nischintakoili area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Tuesday.
According to preliminary reports, the mishap took place near Katarapada Chhak under the jurisdiction of Nischintakoili police station of the district in the morning.
The bus carrying the passengers was proceeding towards Cuttack from Chandbali when the mishap took place. While two persons reportedly died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Hospital. Over 40 others sustained injuries in the accident.
On being informed, fire services and police personnel rushed to the spot and launched an operation to rescue the passengers trapped in the damaged bus.
The injured passengers were admitted to Nischintakoili Hospital for treatment. The condition of some of the injured was stated to be critical.
The accident was suspected to have taken place due to poor visibility caused by dense fog that enveloped the area in the morning.
