Cuttack: Three labourers, engaged in construction work of a septic tank, reportedly died of asphyxiation in Odisha’s Cuttack on Friday.
According to sources, the construction work was going on in an apartment at Trisulia in the city. The labourers, all of them belonging to Nadia in West Bengal, had gone inside the septic tank to remove the remove the wooden beams to support the ceiling in the morning.
After some time, all of them lost consciousness inside the tank which had a very narrow opening. On being informed, Fire Services personnel from Baranga went to the spot and started the rescue operation.
The sources said the Fire personnel had to break the wall of the tank as they could not enter through the narrow opening. They found the labourers unconscious and brought them out.
The rescued labourers were rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in the city. But the doctors in the hospital declared two of them brought dead. Later, the third labourer succumbed during treatment, the sources said.
