Balangir: Three members of a family sustained burn injuries after a man allegedly set their house on fire in Odisha’s Balangir district on Saturday.
As per reports, the man and a woman health worker of Lathore under Patnagarh block in the district were in a relationship for some time. Following differences between the two, the woman wanted to discontinue the relationship.
Enraged over the matter, the man, who is yet to be identified, went to the woman’s house at Radharanipada in Lathore, poured petrol inside it and set it on fire. The health worker, her brother and mother were trapped as fire engulfed the house.
However, the locals rushed to their help and rescued them from inside the house. On being informed a team from Lathore police station went to the spot and sent all the three members to local hospital.
Later, the entire family was shifted to Bhimabhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir as their condition deteriorated. Their condition was stated to be critical.
The police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to trace the man who had reportedly started the fire.
