Cuttack: Police have busted a car loot gang and seized two vehicles from their possession in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
Speaking to media persons at Nischintakoili on Saturday, Salepur SDPO Bimal Kumar Barik said the police have arrested 3 members of the gang and detained a minor. The three arrested persons are SK Abu Raza and Sukhdeb Mallik of Bhadrak and Maruti Behera of Nischintakoili. Of the two seized Bolero vehicles, one has been totally damaged by the gang members.
The case was initiated with a complaint of Laxmipriya Nayak of Nischintakoili in the district stating that her Bolero SUV was stolen on March 14. After registering a case, the Nischintakoili police started investigation.
The investigation led the police to apprehend Maruti Behera, who has over 15 cases pending against him, and a minor boy from the town. The interrogation of Maruti led to arrest of the two others.
On their modus operandi, the SDPO said the gang used to lift four-wheelers parked on roads at different places in Cuttack, Jajpur and Bhadrak districts by breaking their locks at night. They would take the vehicles to a garage or deserted places where they would dismantle those. Later, they would sell the parts of the vehicles i n black market, he added.
The SDPO said more than 15 cases of car loots are pending against the gang at different police stations in the three districts.
