Mumbai: Bollywood filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been sentenced to three-month imprisonment in a cheque bounce case.
Judicial Magistrate (First Class) YP Pujari convicted Varma, popularly known as RGV, for the offence punishable under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
As the filmmaker was not present before the court when the order was passed on Tuesday, the court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him for execution of the sentence as per the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
The court directed RGV to pay a compensation of Rs 3,72,219 to the complainant within three months from the date of the order.
The complainant had registered a cheque bounce case against Varma’s firm in 2018.
In April 2022, Varma was granted bail on a cash security of Rs 5000.
