Bhubaneswar: Three prisoners serving life sentences for murder have been released from Jharpada Special Jail in Bhubaneswar before completing full terms for their good conduct and positive transformation.
The released convicts were identified as Ratan Ghosh from Jatani area in Khordha district, Surendra Nath Bhola from Balipatna area, and Bipin Bihari Baral from Nuagaon area — were serving life terms and became part of the jail reform process
Sources said the three are among the 19 prisoners released from different jails across the state before completing full sentences following an order issued by the state government as part of the prison reform process. They have been released as per the decision of the State Sentence Review Board.
Apart from being freed from jail, each of the released prisoners was provided with financial assistance of Rs 5,000 from the Prison Welfare Fund.
Ratan Ghosh, who was serving life imprisonment in a murder case, was in Jharpada Jail for 16 years.
Similarly, Surendra Nath Bhola of Balipatna was serving life imprisonment in the murder case. He was in Jharpada Jail for 15 years. Bipin Bihari Baral of Nuagaon was in Jharpada Jail for 15 years.
