Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will gift three Vande Bharat train to Odisha ahead of his birthday, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan posted on X on Sunday.
“Brahmapur-Tata Nagar Vande Bharat, Rourkela-Howrah Vande Bharat and Raipur-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat will further enhance connectivity and passenger convenience. It will also benefit industries in the region, boost tourism as well as catalyse economic growth,” he added.
Governor Raghubar Das and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will be present at Rourkela and Berhampur stations respectively on Sunday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off six new Vande Bharat Express trains, including two running through the state, at Tatanagar Junction railway station around 10 am.
The six new routes are: Tatanagar–Patna, Varanasi–Deoghar, Howrah-Dhanbad–Gaya, Howrah-Dumka–Bhagalpur, Howrah-Tatanagar-Rourkela and Tatanagar-Brahmapur.
The Chief Minister will also board Vande Bharat Express from Berhampur to Bhubaneswar after attending the function.
“These new trains would also bolster the rapidly growing fleet of this modern innovation from 54 train sets to 60 with 120 trips daily covering over 280 districts across 24 states and union territories,” the Railway Ministry said.
The PM will inaugurate additional Vande Bharat trains across the country, including Visakhapatnam-Raipur-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express which will run through Odisha, on Monday.
Modi had flagged off Odisha’s first Vande Bharat Express train between Puri and Howrah in May 2023. The second semi-high-speed train service was inaugurated on Puri–Rourkela route in September 2023 and the third, connecting Visakhapatnam with Bhubaneswar, in March this year.
Interestingly, the PM will be traveling to Odisha on his birthday, September 17, to launch Subhadra Yojana and lay foundation stone of railway projects worth Rs 2871 crore and national highway projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore.
