Bhubaneswar: Three police officers from Odisha have been awarded Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak-2024 for their exceptional crime investigation skills.

Taking to his official handle, Odisha DGP Y B Khurania mentioned about Sabyasachi Malla, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of R Udayagiri police station in Gajapati district, Rajendra Narayan Pattanik, IIC of Aska police station in Ganjam district, and Rigan Kindo, IIC of Malkangiri police station, having earned the Union Home Minister’s recognition.

“It is a matter of great pride that three police officers of Odisha have been awarded with the Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak-2024 for excellence in crime investigation,” he wrote.

Malla had successful investigated the murder of an unidentified woman’s murder in Ganjam district in 2021, leading to life sentence for the perpetrator. The recognition for Pattanik came for the 2020 double murder case in Jajpur’s Kalinga Nagar in which life imprisonment was awarded to 17 of the 19 accused. Kindo cracked the 2022 murder case in Malkangiri, which resulted in life imprisonment for two accused.

Besides three from state, 460 officers from across the country have won the medal.

In February, the central government merged Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal, the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation, Asadharan Aasuchana Kushalata Padak and the Union Home Minister’s Awards for Meritorious Service in Forensic Science, forming the Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak’.

The award will be announced every year on October 31, on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
