Sambalpur: Three constables of the Motor Vehicle Department have been suspended for alleged fuel overbilling and false meter readings of government vehicles they used for official purpose in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
Constables Simanchal Sethi, Ajit Dhal and Ranjit Swain allegedly cheated the department of Rs 8 lakh.
According to sources, Sambalpur SP ordered action against the trio after a probe revealed that the amount of fuel filled in tanks of 16 buses billed at Rs 30 lakh and the distance covered by the vehicles was not reasonable. The vehicles were deployed during the three-tier Panchayat polls in the State.
