Angul: Three persons died while two others sustained serious injuries after a truck hit an auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling near Khalagaon under Bantala police limits in Odisha’s Angul district late on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Pitambar Pradhan, his relatives Gundicha and Munna, who was driving the auto, of Kulasinga village. Pitambar’s wife Jambu and his seven-year-old daughter, who were also travelling with them, have been admitted to Bantala health centre.
According to sources, the accident took place around midnight while they were returning home in the three-wheeler after leaving his elder daughter at her in-laws’ place in Nuaraiguda. Pitambar and Gundicha died on the spot following the head-on collision while Munna breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital.
The driver of the truck fled the spot with the vehicle after the incident.
Police have recovered the bodies for postmortem and started an investigation.
