Berhampur: In a tragic incident, three members of a family died and two others turned critical due to suspected food poisoning at a village in Sheragada area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Monday.
The incident took place at Shriramnagar village under the jurisdiction of Sheragada police station in the district. While a woman and her two sons died, her husband and mother-in-law fell ill, sources said. The deceased woman was reportedly working as a teacher.
According to preliminary information, the family had been staying in a rented house for a long time. The family members had dinner last night and went to sleep. However, after a few hours, they fell ill and complained of nausea, vomiting.
The family members were taken to hospital where the woman and her two sons died during treatment. Her husband and mother-in-law are undergoing treatment.
While the exact reason behind their death is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected to have taken place due to food poisoning.
On being informed, a team of police personnel visited the spot and launched an investigation. The bodies were sent for postmortem. Further details are awaited.
