3 Of Family Killed In Firecracker Blast In Odisha’s Cuttack



Cuttack: Three members of a family were killed a powerful firecracker explosion at Mahajanpur village under Jagatpur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district.

The blast, which occurred on Thursday evening while firecrackers were being stored inside a house, initially killed a woman and her 3-year-old daughter. A third victim, another woman, succumbed to severe burn

injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, sources said.

Police identified the deceased as the wife, daughter-in-law and granddaughter of Govind Nayak, owner of the house where the explosion took place.

The powerful explosion not only devastated the family but also damaged two adjoining houses, underscoring the dangers of storing explosive materials in residential areas.

Police sources said the blast took place when 34-year-old Sudhansubala Nayak and her mother-in-law 60-year-old Pravati Nayak were allegedly handling firecracker materials inside the house.

Authorities have registered a case and launched a probe into the incident, focusing on whether the firecrackers were being manufactured or illegally stored.
