Balangir: Police have arrested 3 persons for allegedly bearing the salesman of a liquor shop to death in a fight over Rs 10 in Odisha’s Balangir district.

As per reports, the three persons, identified as Jogindra Behera, Biswanath Nial and Laxman Das of Kharakhara village under Khaprakhol police limits in the district had gone to purchase liquor from an IMFL off-shop in the area on Sunday night.

After consuming the liquor, they again went to the shop to get another bottle of liquor. The salesman of the shop, Gopal Prasad gave them a bottle having MRP of Rs 180. But he told them that its cost had been revised and charged them Rs 190.

The trio had an argument over extra Rs 10 and scolded Gopal for allegedly cheating them. When they said that they did not have cash and wanted to make digital payment, the salesman denied to entertain them. This escalated the argument.

The three persons dragged Gopal from the shop and beat him up mercilessly. Gopal sustained critical injuries and started bleeding. As he fell down unconscious, the manager of the shop rushed him to the community health centre (CHC) at Khaprakhol.

Later, Gopal was shifted to VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla as his condition deteriorated. But he succumbed on Monday.

Following his death, the IMFL shop manager filed a complaint at Khaprakhol police station against the three persons. The police arrested Jogindra, Biswanath and Laxman on the day and forwarded them to court.
