Balasore: Three students, who had escaped from a residential school after being allegedly beaten by hostel staff, were rescued by local residents in Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday.
According to sources, the three students of Malikarjuna Sevashram at Alda under Bahanga block of the district escaped on Friday night. They spent the night in a farmland.
On Saturday morning, local people found the students wandering on NH-16 near Nayakbandh. On being asked as to why they were moving in the area, they narrated their ordeal before the locals.
The villagers informed Soro police who took them to the police station. They alleged before police that they had escaped from the school hostel after being beaten by the staff and forced to clean the floor.
The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.
More than 30 students in the age group of 6 to 18 study in the Sevashram. There have been allegations of their torture in the past, the locals said.
