Dhenkanal: Three engineering students from Odisha’s Dhenkanal district have reportedly gone missing after the flash flood in Sikkim.
As per information from the families, seven friends from the state, all engineering students, had gone to Sikkim on a visit and three of them are still missing in flood-ravaged state.
The missing students have been identified as Nirmal Jena and Promodini Jena (siblings) of Ankarantipur village and Chandrashekhar Singh of Siminai village of the district.
Family members of the missing students met the district Collector and Superintendent of Police on Friday and sought help in tracing them. .
Chandrashekhar’s family members reportedly stated that the last time they spoke to him was around 9 pm on October 2. Thereafter, his mobile phone remains switched-off.
As per reports, the bodies of 27 people, including seven Armymen, have been recovered so far from the slush and debris of the flash flood in the Teesta river that devastated Sikkim.
Over 3,000 people including tourists, drivers and motorcyclists have been stranded in Lachen and Lachung areas after a glacial lake situated in the northwest state burst due to incessant rains and triggered flash floods in the region on October 4.
