Bhubaneswar: With the monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly set to begin on Thursday, a tight security net was thrown over Bhubaneswar to prevent any law and order problem and untoward incident.
The overall arrangements were reviewed by Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania as a three-tier security system is being put in place for the monsoon session. Around 30 platoons of police personnel are being deployed across strategic locations around the Assembly building.
As part of the security measures, the police will deploy Striking Forces, Special Tactical Units (STU), Bomb Disposal Squads, Dog Squads, and Fire Service teams. This apart, five temporary police control rooms have been set up for real-time coordination and response.
In order to regulate crowd movement and prevent any untoward incidents, prohibitory orders will be imposed in the Lower PMG area to restrict public gatherings. The entire Assembly and surrounding areas are now under intense police surveillance, including CCTV monitoring.
Steps have also been taken for barricading as access to the Assembly zone will be heavily restricted. The police force remains on high alert to maintain peace and order throughout the duration of the monsoon session.
DGP Khurania said forces have been deployed to guard the Assembly boundary as well as all gates. Adequate security arrangements have been made both inside the Assembly complex and surrounding areas, he said.
