Puri: With the construction of three chariots of sibling deities of Jagannath temple for Rath yatra in Puri going on in full swing, the silk clothes to be used in the chariots arrived on Monday.
Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had placed an order for Basunga Paata with Tussar silk traders of Nuapatna earlier.
The servitors of the temple, who are engaged in chariot works, had selected and finalised the fabric from the samples provided by the traders to ensure its quality, SJTA sources said.
Following the order, three quintals of Basunga Paata clothes were handed over to the administrative officers at the SJTA office on Monday.
Basunga Paata plays an important role in the Rath Yatra as it is used to drape the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Blabahdra and Devi Subhadra. The silk clothes are produced keeping the colour, design and measurement of each chariot, the sources said.
Meanwhile, the works on making the wheels of the chariots were going on in Ratha Khala (chariot making workshop) in the Pilgrim Town. The Rath Yatra in Puri will be held on July 8 this year.
