Angul: A 3-year-old girl, who fell into a borewell at Gulasar village
under Handapa police limits in Angul district on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Radha Sahu, daughter of Santosh Sahu.
Local police and fire officials rushed to the spot after being alerted
about the incident from locals. They were assisted by Odisha Disaster
Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) personnel. It took nearly seven hours for
the joint team to rescue Radha from the 200-feet borewell.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik praised the efforts of fire, police,
ODRAF officials and district administration for their excellent team
work.
According to Fire Services DG BK Sharma, a parallel hole of 15/16 feet
depth was dug nearly 6 ft away from the borewell hole. Later, a tunnel
was dug to connect to the borewell. After opening the tunnel, a fire
official reached the spot and rescued the minor girl. She was admitted
to Angul hospital for treatment.
