New Delhi: Sixteen male and 15 female hockey players, as well as a men’s coach of the Senior National men’s team have tested positive for COVID-19 at SAI National Centre of Excellence, Bengaluru.
Samples of 128 people were tested.
The Indian men’s team is preparing for the FIH Pro League to be played in South Africa, while the women are gearing up for the Junior Women’s World Cup scheduled in April, also in South Africa (Potchefstroom).
In a statement, SAI said that all male players are asymptomatic. As for the girls, 12 have symptoms while 3 are asymptomatic.
Of the others to have tested positive for coronavirus, one is a members of the Senior Women’s hockey team (symptomatic) and the other a masseuse from the athletics team.
SAI didn’t reveal identities of the COVID-positive persons. The Centre is taking all necessary steps to treat the players in isolation and help them recover.
