Cuttack: Markatnagar police here arrested two persons and seized a huge quantity of adulterated cough syrup here in the early hours of Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off that cough syrups were being illegally transported to CDA area, the police team raided the area and apprehended Kulamani Mishra alias Kulu (40) at 3.05 am. Adulterated cough syrup bottles under various brand names were seized from his possession.
Following his interrogation, the team raided the house of Dilip Kumar Sahoo alias Mantu (42) at Choudwar.
Dilip is the owner of a pharmaceutical shop called ‘Chikischa Drug’, where the cough syrup was being sold. Kulamani used to procure those from Dilip’s shop and then sell them among his customers for intoxication and addiction purposes.
A total of 313 litres and 400 ml of cough syrup in 3199 packaged bottles were seized along with a motorcycle and five strips of Nite-10 tablets.
Further probe is underway.
