Bhubaneswar: A total of 33,315 senior citizens have been given the COVID-19 vaccine in two days, said Health and Family Welfare Director Bijay Panigrahi on Wednesday.
While 20,952 persons above the age of 60 and 774 persons between 45 and 59 years were vaccinated on Tuesday, 11,589 were vaccinated on the first day of the third-phase vaccination on Monday.
Stating that 6,037 health workers were vaccinated on Tuesday, Panigrahi said about 90 per cent of health workers have been vaccinated so far of which 82 per cent of health workers have been given the second dose. Apart from this, 74 per cent of the frontline COVID warriors have been given the first dose of the vaccine.
Maintaining that there are no reports of any side effects of the vaccines, he said some problems have occurred in the CoWin app for the registration of the senior citizens.
Panigrahi further said to determine the anti-level of the persons after the first dose vaccination, the laboratory test of the samples of these persons is underway at VIMSAR in Burla, Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar to ascertain the efficacy of the vaccine.
On the availability of the COVID vaccines, he said that the state is presently has a stock of about 7 lakh vaccines. “The Centre has asked the state government not to go for the buffer stock of the vaccines as it will provide the fresh stock a week before the previous stock is exhausted,” he added.
