Bhubaneswar: Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal on Friday said that out of a total of 72,587 Anganwadi centres in Odisha, 34,651 do not have their own infrastructure.
Replying to a question of BJD member Raseswari Panigrahi in the State Assembly, the minister said that in Ganjam district, 2964 Anganwadi centres do not have their own infrastructure followed by Balasore (2854), Cuttack (2325), Bhadrak (1605) and Bargarh (1586).
He further said that while 13,566 Anganwadi buildings are under construction, the state government has sanctioned money for the construction of 12,156 buildings. Replying to another question of Congress member, Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Samal said the state government has selected 661 self-help groups (SHGs) to supply Chhatua to the Anganwadi centres.
“However, the government has withdrawn 53 self-help groups (SHGs) for supplying poor and inferior quality of Chhatua to the Anganwadi centres and served show-cause notice to the 10 SHGs each in Cuttack and Angul districts,” he pointed out.
