Rayagada: Labour officials on Friday rescued 35 bonded labourers while being sent to Andhra Pradesh from Odisha’s Rayagada district.
According to sources, the officials, led by assistant labour officer Sanjay Kumar Rohit, conducted a raid on Madanpur village under Konnara block in the district following reliable information that some villagers were being sent to work as bonded labourers in Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh.
The officials rescued 35 labourers including women belonging to Lalabi village under Chandili police station from Madanpur. They sent the rescued workers back to their village.
One Bacha Taminaidu of Dhakulaguda village had mobilised the villagers by promising them alluring salary for the daily works in Vijayawada, said the sources.
