The Odisha Legislative Assembly Secretariat, in accordance with the Odisha government’s decision to provide accommodation to the MLAs in same area, has started preparations to build new quarters. The MLA quarters located between New Guest House of Vidhan Sabha and Commissionerate Police Headquarters at Unit -4, will be pulled down and new multi-storey buildings will be built in that place.
It has, therefore, asked the 35 MLAs/Ministers and four others who are currently living in the said government quarters, to vacate it, though no deadline has been given to them.
According to sources, these MLAs and Ministers will be shifted to the empty quarters in the D-Block of MLA Colony. They will be allotted quarters by the General Administration Department.
The Ministers and MLAs, who have been asked to vacate the quarters are – Prafulla Malik, Sushant Singh, Tukuni Sahu, Deputy Speaker Rajnikant Singh, Byomkesh Ray, Prashant Jagdev, K Narayan Rao, Srikant Sahu, Laxman Munda, Rita Sahu, Pritiranjan Ghadei, Prashant Behera, Subash Panigrahi, Bhagirathi Sethi, Bhaskar Madei, Satyanarayan Pradhan, Sushant Kumar Rout, Ramesh Chandra Jena, Dashrathi Gamang, Basanti Hembram, Bishnu Sethi, Manjula Swain, Dhuba Sahu, Subash Chandra Behera, Surjyamani Baidya, Minakshi Mahanta, Ramesh Chandra Sahay, Sunanda Das, Sanjib Kumar Malik, Jayant Sarangi, Saluga Pradhan, Sudhir Kumar Samal, Adhiraj Mohan Panigrahi, Soubhik Biswal, and Raghuram Padal. And the among remaining four are former MLA Purna Chandra Sethi, Marshal Debasish Pradhan and RC Panda.
Though they have not been given any deadline, the sooner they vacate the quarters, the quicker the construction work can begin, the statement said, adding that they will be provided 7-room apartments in the new apartment buildings.
