Rourkela: The 3rd edition of the Hockey Association of Odisha Junior Women’s State Championship 2024 has begun at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, Rourkela, Odisha, showcasing some of the finest hockey talent in the region.
This year’s tournament will witness participation of over 10 teams from district units and affiliated academy, competing in a single elimination format over 5 days, with the finals set for September 20.
In the opening game at the Birsa Munda hockey stadium today, Angul defeated Kandhamal with a 5 – 0 victory, advancing to the next round.
A hard-fought battle between Kalahandi and Koraput ended in a draw(1-1), with Kalahandi emerging victorious in the shootout, 3-1. In the third game of the day, Gangpur Hockey association dominated Balasore with a huge margin of 8 – 0, securing their place in the next stage.
While Cuttack came on top by defeating Rayagada by 1-0 score line, in the fourth game. In the fifth encounter, Malkanagiri secured a 5- 0 victory against Sports Hostel Sundargarh, while Jajpur followed suit with 5 – 0 win against Baragarh in the sixth game.
Rounding up the day at the Birsa Munda Hockey stadium, SMS hockey academy clinched victory over Boudh by 5 – 0 score line in the final game.
Speaking ahead of the tournament Dr. Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey Association of Odisha said, “This tournament serves as a platform for the future stars of Odisha hockey.”
“We are excited to witness the top junior women’s talent from across the region competing at this level, and I wish all the teams the very best of luck.”
