Khurda: A student was killed and three others were seriously injured as their car rammed into a trailer truck in Odisha’s Khurda district on Sunday.
According to sources, all of them studying in a college in Bhubaneswar were going in the car to Chilika Lake to celebrate Holi. They have been identified as Amarjyoti Rout of Jahangir locality in Dhamra of Bhadrak district, Deepti Samantaray from Kendrapada, Ranjita Nayak from Kalahandi and Komal Sarma from Bhadrak.
While the car was going in a high speed on NH-16, it crashed into the trailer truck from behind near Gourachandrapur Chhak under Chandpur police station in the district.
On being informed about the accident by the locals, police along with Fire Brigade team rushed to the spot. They rescued the four students from inside the badly mangled car and admitted them in a local hospital.
But Amarjyoti, who was driving the car, succumbed during the treatment. Deepti was critically injured and the two girls, who also sustained serious injuries, were later shifted to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar.
