Bhadrak: Four persons, including a trader, were critically injured after being allegedly stabbed by miscreants during an extortion attempt in Odisha’s’ Bhadrak town.
As per sources, the incident took place late on Wednesday night at Bhadrak bus-stand where two vehicles loaded with eggs from Andhra Pradesh were parked.
Three local anti-socials reportedly approached the drivers of the vehicles in an inebriated condition and demanded money from them.
As the drivers refused to pay, the goons took out knives and other sharp weapons and attacked the two drivers. On being informed, owner of the vehicles P Basu rushed to the spot with his nephew and tried to control the situation.
However, the confrontation reportedly escalated as the trunk miscreants also attacked and caused serious injuries to Basu, his nephew, the driver and another auto-rickshaw driver who intervened to bring the situation under control.
In a bid to save themselves, the injured persons tried to rush towards Bhadrak Town Police Station in an auto-rickshaw.
However, the goons chased them and continued to attack them. When they were close to the police station, the attackers left with one of the victim’s two-wheeler.
The injured persons were taken to the hospital for treatment. Two of them were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and efforts are on to trace and apprehend the attackers.
