Bhubaneswar: Four persons were killed while two others were critically injured in separate accidents in Odisha on Friday.
In Jagasinghpur district, a 42-year-old man, Prabhanjan Sahu, died after a LAccMI bus rammed his motorcycle on a bridge near Nagapur at around 9 am while he was on his was to nearby Balikuda Bazaar to purchase grocery items. He was rushed to Balikuda community health centre (CHC) but was declared dead on arrival by the doctors, according to sources.
Later, locals intercepted the LAccMI bus and informed Balikuda police as well as block administration. They also urged the local administration to provide compensation to the bereaved family.
The deceased was a native of Mallikapur village under Ichhapur panchayat in Balikuda block. He is by his wife and only son, a Plus-II student.
The administration has provided Rs 10,000 from the Red Cross Fund to the deceased’s family as immediate assistance.
Later in the afternoon, three persons died after an SUV crashed into a stationary truck at Ghess under Melchhamunda police limits in Bargarh district. One among the five occupants of the SUV died on the spot while two others were declared dead on arrival at a nearby health facility.
The SUV was badly damaged in the crash.
The two-critically injured persons have been shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Sambalpur.
The identity of the deceased as well as the injured persons is yet to be ascertained, sources added.
