Subarnapur: In a startling revelation, the death of a catering worker in Odisha’s Subarnapur district which initially thought to be due to a road accident, turned out to be a case of planned murder after a detailed probe.
Initially, the incident was registered as a road accident. However, further investigation by the police revealed details pointing to a planned attack.
After detailed probe, police arrested four persons, including the prime accused, Surendra Nayak, in connection with the case and forwarded them to court. Both Arjun Rath and Surendra were involved in catering work. While Arjun worked as a cook, Surendra was engaged in catering-related work.
According to sources, a dispute had cropped up between Arjun’s son, Om Prakash, and Surendra over a trivial matter a few days before the incident. The dispute reportedly led to strained relations between the two sides.
Police investigation reportedly revealed that Surendra planned to take revenge on Arjun over the dispute. As part of the alleged plan, Arjun was called over the phone and subsequently attacked on the road.
A senior police officer said Surendra and three of his accomplices planned the murder and tried to hide it under the cover of an accident. However, police later came to know through certain pieces of evidence that it was a murder case. Police recovered and seized SIM cards and vehicles in connection with the case.
Following the investigation, police arrested Surendra and three others in connection with the case. All four accused were subsequently forwarded to court.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident brought the alleged conspiracy to light, after the case was initially treated as a road accident.
