Puri: Four workers were injured after an under-construction portico collapsed at Puri railway station in Odisha on Sunday.
According to East Coast Railway sources, six labourers were working at the site at the time of the incident and four of them suffered injuries. “All injured labourers were promptly shifted to the hospital and are currently out of danger. Proper treatment to the injured persons is being ensured. An investigation into the incident has been ordered,” it added.
Eye witnesses said that the incident took place around 9.45 am at the new corridor of the ongoing railway station project during the slab casting work. While three were immediately admitted to district headquarters hospital here, a rescue operation was also launched by Fire Services Dept personnel, fearing that some labourers might have got trapped under the debris.
Heavy machines were used to remove the iron structures installed for laying of the roof.
