Cuttack: At least four people were injured when two groups entered into a violent clash at Bhagipur in Banki area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Saturday.
Tension prevailed in the area as stones were pelted from both the sides, causing injuries to several people, including passersby.
Sources said two groups of people from different localities of Bhagipur village entered into a heated altercation over some issue in the morning. After a few minutes, the situation turned violent. Stones, glass bottles, and wooden sticks were pelted from both sides. At least four people sustained serious injuries.
While the exact reason behind the clash is yet to be ascertained, sources a group of youths had created a scene by hurling stones at vehicles passing through the Cuttack-Banki road via Bhagipur on Friday evening, allegedly demanding toll money.
Arguments and chaos had then prevailed after passersby and the youths engaged in spats and thrashing. Village elders reportedly reached out to the accused group in the morning, asking them to refrain from continuing the unruly activities.
However, a verbal clash broke out on the spot and soon a violent clash erupted.
Following the incident, police personnel visited the area and launched an investigation.
