Ahmedabad: Four Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorists were nabbed at Ahmedabad airport on Monday. According to police, their Pakistani handler tasked them to carry out suicide attacks in Gujarat.

Deputy General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay told the media that the four terrorists — identified as Mohamed Nusrath, Mohamed Nafran, Mohamed Faris and Mohamed Rasdeen — are natives of Sri Lanka who were radicalised by the Islamic State’s ideology.

They speak Tamil, and don’t understand Hindi or English, the DGP informed.

Two mobile phones, Indian and Sri Lankan currency, Pakistan-made weapons and an Islamic State flag were recovered from them.

The ISIS operatives arrived in Chennai from Colombo and then travelled to Ahmedabad on May 19.

“We received information that four terrorists were going to reach Ahmedabad on May 18 or 19 either by train or flight… Teams were formed and strategy was created based on the information received… Passenger lists of trains and flights coming from the south were analysed… All four of them were travelling from Chennai to Ahmedabad on the same PNR number through an Indigo flight. Verification was done in Colombo too for confirmation,” the DGP said.

According to the DGP, the terrorists came in contact with an ISIS operative by the name of Abu in Pakistan, who gave them Rs 4 lakh to make bombs for suicide attacks in Gujarat.

Police found in their phones mention of some locations near Ahmedabad, where they were likely to carry out terror attacks.
