Bhubaneswar: Four journalists from Odisha sustained critical injuries when as the SUV carrying them rammed into a truck near Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu early on Tuesday.
As per preliminary information, four journalists from Malkangiri district were proceeding to Rameswaram temple for darshan when their vehicle dashed against the truck from the rear in the early hours.
Sources said the mishap took place after the truck applied sudden brake near a railway level-crossing. After the SUV hit the truck from behind, all the four journalists sustained grievous injuries.
They were rescued by locals and rushed to a hospital for treatment. The condition of one of the injured was stated to be critical.
The scribes and their families have sought the Odisha government’s assistance for proper treatment of the injured and their safe return.
Sources said the journalists from Padia and Kalimela areas of Malkangiri had embarked upon a pilgrimage. After having darshan at Venkataswara temple in Tirupati, they were proceeding to Rameswaram when the mishap took place.
