Khurda: A team of Khurda Forest Range officials seized 4 kg pangolin scales and arrested two persons in Odisha’s Khurda district on Wednesday.
Acting on tip off, the team of Forest officials conducted a raid at Dhala Pathar area and seized four kg of fresh pangolin scales. During the raid, there was a scuffle between Forest officials and the accused persons.
According to sources, the Forest department had been keeping a watch on the accused persons, who were trying to smuggle a live pangolin, for the last three days. As the pangolin died on Tuesday, they collected its scales.
However, under the direction of Khurda DFO, three teams were formed and a plan was chalked out to nab the accused. As per the plan, Khurda ACF Arabinda Mohanty and wildlife warden of Khurda district Subhendu Mallick approached the accused as customers and offered to buy the pangolin scales.
While the accused were negotiating a deal, another team, led by Khurda Ranger Asit Mishra, conducted the raid.
Even as the accused tried to flee, the raiding team nabbed them.
