Mumbai: At least four labourers died of suffocation after entering an underground water tank to clean it on Sunday.
According to police, five contract workers went inside a tank at an under-construction building, Bismillah Space, around Sunday noon for cleaning and lost consciousness.
Realising their distress, those present at the spot alerted the fire brigade.
Once the trapped workers were rescued, they were rushed to the nearby state-run JJ Hospital where four of them were declared dead on arrival.
The fifth labourer is undergoing treatment.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials, and police personnel visited the site. An investigation has been launched.
