Bhadrak: Four fishermen from Chudamani in Odisha’s Bhadrak district were rescued on Tuesday evening after being stranded at the sea for four days due a mechanical failure in their boat, which later sank off the Chudamani coast.
The rescued fishermen are Prakash Malik (34), Pabana Malik (56), Bana Malik (27), and Sapan Malik (70).
According to sources, the fishermen had embarked on a shipping expedition on August 24. The fishing trip, however, turned into a desperate fight for survival when the motorised boat encountered a mechanical failure and was then caught in a sudden storm, causing it to capsize. They clung to the wreckage and drifted until being spotted near Banigachha coast.
The boat owner was informed about their condition on August 27 evening and he immediately arranged for local boats to rescue them. The four were brought ashore late in the night and were taken to the Community Health Centre at Basudevpur by ambulance as their condition had deteriorated due to prolonged exposure to sea water and lack of food.
