Kendrapada: As many as four persons were killed in lightning strike as northwesterly hit different places in Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Tuesday.
As per reports, several villages in Garadpur and Aul blocks of the district were affected by sandstorm and lightning followed by rain as nor’westerly hit the areas.
In Bangari village under Garadpur block, lightning struck Purnachandra Chhatoi, while he was standing outside his house, killing him on the spot. In Kundilo village of the same block, Asutosh Jena, an elderly person was killed by lightning while he was on the roof of his house.
Similarly, 65-year-old Shiba Prasad Sahu of Baruna village was working in his crop field when the lightning struck him and he died. The villages come under Patkura police station.
In Saliancha village of Aul block, another youth, identified as Anil Behera, was killed as lightning struck him during nor’westerly while he was working in a farmland. The villagers rushed him to the community health centre (CHC) at Aul but the doctors declared him brought dead.
Patkura police and Aul police have registered separate cases and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
