Hyderabad: Cricketer-turned-politician Mohammed Azharuddin is Congress’ designated candidate from Jubilee Hills constituency in the upcoming Telangana assembly elections.
The former India cricket captain was planning to file his nomination from Jubilee Hills for the November 30 election, but he could be in trouble after four cases were registered against Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) office-bearers and previous members, including Azharuddin,
Azharuddin and the others have been accused of misappropriation of funds when he was president of HCA. The cases have been registered by Rachakonda Police.
Azhar has approached Malkajgiri district court seeking bail in all the four cases.
Azharuddin had dismissed the complaint, which was filed last month, as a ‘stunt’.
“I have seen news reports that have reported that FIRs have been registered against me on complaints by CEO, HCA. I want to state that these are all false & motivated allegations & I am in no way connected with the allegations. I will reply to the motivated allegations against me at an appropriate time. This is just a stunt pulled by my rivals to ruin my reputation. We shall stay strong and fight hard,” Azhar wrote on X.
