Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested 4 servitors of Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar for allegedly misbehaving with devotees and forcibly collecting donations from them.
According to sources, the servitors, identified as Manmohan Mahapatra, Bira Behera, Krupasindhu Mahapatra and Prakash Batu, used to harass the devotees coming to the shrine of Lord Shiva. They were also abusing the devotees and forcing the devotees to pay ‘chanda’ (donation).
Following a complaint filed by a devotee, who was a victim of harassment by the servitors, at the Lingaraj police station, a case was registered and the accused were arrested.
The arrested servitors have several such cases pending against them, said a police official adding that further investigation is on into the complaint.
