Srinagar: Four soldiers, including a major, and a civilian were killed in an overnight encounter with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, less than a week after over 40 CRPF jawans were martyred in the area by a suicide bomber of the same group.
The civilian has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad.
According to sources, a search operation was launched late last night by army, police and CRPF personnel following a tip-off that JeM terrorists were hiding in Pinglan area.
Security forces, including the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), surrounded the village. As the cordon was tightened, the holed-up militants started firing, leading to the gun battle, the sources added.
