Jajpur: The festival of lights turned tragic for a family at Charada village under Korei police limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district when a 4-year-old child died while bursting firecrackers on Monday evening.
According to sources, Raju Mallick had brought firecrackers and hid those under the bed to keep them away from his child’s reach. He, however, found one and began bursting it while others were busy with Diwali celebrations.
The firecracker, however, exploded in his hand and the preschooler had to be rushed to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital with critical injuries. He was then referred to SCB Medical College & Hospital but succumbed while being taken to Cuttack late on Monday night.
