Paralakhemundi: A four-year-old girl died after being run over by a vegetable-laden van at a village in Adava area of Odisha’s Gajapati district on Sunday.
The incident took place at Gandaguda village of Madadua gram panchayat under the jurisdiction of Adava police station in the district when the girl had reportedly gone out with her father to the village market.
According to sources, the van had gone to the village market to supply vegetables. Villagers were busy buying vegetables at that time. Unfortunately, the van ran over the girl who was standing near the vehicle.
The girl was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital in a critical condition. However, she died while undergoing treatment there.
Tension prevailed in the area following the death of the minor girl in the accident. Irate locals reportedly detained the driver of the vehicle and demanded compensation to the girl’s family.
The girl’s father, Lisian Nayak alleged that the mishap took place because of careless driving.
On being informed, a team of police personnel rushed to the site and seized the vehicle. The police team pacified the angry villagers and launched an investigation into the incident.
